About Me

Hi there, my name is Alima Khan. I am originally from Guyana, South America.
I come from a very large family of fourteen children, seven boys and seven girls. We did a lot of cooking, housekeeping and sewing (oh, my dear father was a tailor and a  businessman, God bless his soul). I left school at an early age because my older sisters got married and me being the next girl in line had to help my mom.
At age twenty, I got married and together we raised four children, three girls and one boy.
My  dear husband is an Administrator in education (presently, he is the Principal of a private school here in beautiful upstate New York). I learned a lot from him since I helped to write his notes when he was at University. He gave me his own short hand version of notes which I had to figure out and rewrite. :D .
Some years later, I did a Home Economics course which inspired me, hence, my love of trying out new recipes. After I had my girls I went back to school (Secretary School), but I got pregnant with my dear son.
Later we bought my parent’s family house which had a little shop. I started my business with my dear daughters with baking, making fudge and sewing.
My oldest daughter got married and came to the US and so we came to the US as immigrants to start a new life. Here I went to College  and did my GED and a bunch of Early Childhood Education courses online and a course in Child Development Association. I now volunteer in the Kindergarten class here.
My hobbies are sewing, scrap-booking, quilting and experimenting with new recipes in my little kitchen. My dear hubby is a diabetic so this is what inspired me somewhat to use ingredients that are diabetic  friendly.
I embrace my Indian and Chinese heritage and love to cook both dishes. I love to occupy my time constructively. Sometimes I think I bite off more than I can chew because I have all sorts of unread books, unfinished projects, and a host of other things to do.Maybe this blog will help me finish my projects to share with you.
